I was very happy to read the statements from the 13 subcommittees. Thanks to all who have been so thoughtful and caring about Provo.
May I add one suggestion regarding the Education section:
"Foster and encourage the study of the foundation documents of the United States of America, including the lives and values of the Founding Fathers and Mothers."
This is an area in which our schools need encouragement. It will help the Unity efforts of the Vision Statement as peoples from all nations and cultures living here are taught the values that America stands for. Likewise, we need to increase support for the Freedom Festival and Colonial Days.
Many thanks,
David Earl Perry

I appreciate the Values and Supports as they stand. I would have one word included somewhere in either section. Communication! Mayor Curtis has really lead out in being available, transparent, and communicative with the citizens as never before. To promote this continuing with future leadership it ought to be part of our vision or mission.

A lot of work is required to achieve "safe, desirable neighborhoods." There has to be enough money allocated for adequate numbers of police for our population. Last I heard we are a little low there. Zoning has to support owner occupancy and control the numbers of student rentals so that our few family neighborhoods don't disappear. Schools should not be shut down. Parks have to be created and maintained. Roads have to be repaired. The neighborhood chair program must be maintained and supported by city administration. And federal & state grant monies should be sought diligently so that housing rehab can occur in the older central neighborhoods. I'll post this on the neighborhood section as well.

A fine document. Would like to see some support for the Homeless Shelter which is so close to being finished and yet so far. So many people needed it during this extremely cold winter and we didn't have it. I know as a rule most elected officials live in the high-rent district and don't know first-hand the problems of the poor (one councilwoman told me that Provo doesn't have any homeless people), but we actually have a sizable population of homeless and working poor whose needs might profitably be addressed in the vision statement. Thanks.
